Dog Trainer
Dural Dog Training Centre
Dural Dog Training Centre is looking for a passionate, reliable and confident Dog Trainer to join our team.
We work with a wide range of dogs across boarding, board and train, private training and behaviour programs. Our goal is to provide practical, effective training while helping owners better understand and communicate with their dogs.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who genuinely enjoys working with dogs and wants to continue developing their skills as a professional trainer.
About the Role
As a Dog Trainer at Dural Dog Training Centre, your responsibilities will include:
- Handling and training dogs of different breeds, ages, sizes and temperaments
- Working with dogs enrolled in our board and train programs
- Following individual training plans and maintaining consistency throughout each dog’s program
- Teaching and reinforcing obedience skills including engagement, focus, place, recall, loose-lead walking and general manners
- Working with dogs experiencing behavioural challenges under the direction of senior trainers and management
- Conducting training sessions and structured activities throughout the day
- Providing appropriate physical and mental enrichment for dogs in training
- Monitoring each dog’s progress and communicating relevant observations to senior staff
- Maintaining accurate training and care records
- Assisting with client handovers and explaining training techniques to owners when required
- Demonstrating training exercises clearly and confidently to clients
- Ensuring training is conducted safely and appropriately for each individual dog
- Working alongside kennel attendants and other trainers to maintain consistency across the facility
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and animal welfare
- Following workplace health and safety procedures
- Communicating any concerns regarding a dog’s behaviour, health or wellbeing to management
- Assisting with general kennel duties when required
Experience Previous qualified dog training experience is highly regarded.
Experience in dog boarding, kennel work, veterinary care, animal behaviour, dog daycare or another animal-related role will also be considered.
The Reality of the Job
This is a hands-on, physically demanding role.
You will spend a large portion of your day on your feet, handling dogs, walking, training, cleaning and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
You will also be required to work with dogs that may be difficult or challenging. Being passionate about dogs is important, but so are reliability, emotional composure, attention to detail and the ability to follow through with training plans consistently.
What We Offer
- A hands-on career working with dogs every day
- Exposure to a wide variety of breeds, temperaments and behavioural challenges
- Training and support from experienced trainers
- Opportunities to develop your professional dog-handling and training skills
- Experience across boarding, board and train, obedience and behaviour programs
- A varied working environment where no two days are the same
- Opportunities for growth within the business
