Tanami is one of Australia's most remote and significant underground gold mines, located deep in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. About Newmont
Newmont Tanami is located on Aboriginal freehold land approximately 540km northwest of Alice Springs and is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset within a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 (TE2) project is extending mine life beyond 2040 through the development of a hoisting shaft, increasing underground production from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Strong underground exploration results and the successful delivery of the first Tanami Expansion have positioned Tanami as a major contributor to the Newmont global portfolio.
A fully equipped accommodation village is located 40km from site,
offering a range of leisure facilities for employees flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact
Reporting to the Development Superintendent, you will play a key role in supporting underground development activities by assisting Jumbo operators and ensuring materials, tools and work areas are prepared safely and efficiently. This hands-on role is critical to maintaining the development cycle, supporting daily production targets and ensuring safe, well-prepared working environments underground. You will work closely with operators and crews to keep operations moving safely and effectively
As part of our team, you will
- Assist Jumbo operators in underground development activities
- Deliver tools, materials and equipment to active work areas
- Set up headings and support development tasks underground
- Conduct pre-start checks and maintain equipment standards
- Maintain housekeeping and safe working environments
- Support crews to achieve daily development targets
- Communicate effectively via radio and with underground teams
- Follow site safety procedures, inspections and risk controls
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Underground mining experience – Highly Desirable
- Current Australian C Class driver’s licence
- Strong understanding of underground safety practices
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments
- Good communication and time management skills
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and develop
- Ability to work rotating day/night shifts
- Mask fit ready
