Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Field Service Engineer role based in Australia.
The Field Service
Engineer will install, commission, maintain, and repair Smiths Detection systems at customer sites, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. The role involves performing routine and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and completing service reports and documentation. The engineer will provide technical support and training to customers, coordinate with internal teams for parts and escalation, and follow all safety, compliance, and quality procedures.
The position requires regular travel to customer locations within the region and occasional after-hours support as needed.
Qualifications
- Solid technical and engineering skills in electronics, electro-mechanical systems, or related fields; ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of complex equipment; experience with preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
- Solid IT and networking fundamentals, including familiarity with Windows-based systems, basic network configuration, and system connectivity.
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently on-site, manage time and travel schedules, and adapt to changing priorities and environments.
- Relevant vocational qualification or degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in field service, industrial equipment, security screening, or similar technical environments is highly advantageous.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance, including adherence to company policies and local regulations.
