About School of Rock
School of Rock is a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. With over 350 schools and a strong internationally recognised brand, School of Rock is the largest after-school music education provider in the world. We put on shows to teach music.
The Role The General Manager runs the show from ACDC to Zappa, creating a safe and inspiring environment where students can achieve their musical and creative potential.
This isn't a typical General Manager role.
You'll lead a thriving music school where business, education and live performance come together.
You'll manage a talented team, grow enrolments, build relationships with families and help create the shows and experiences our students will remember for years.
You don't need to be a professional musician or music teacher. We're looking for a strong people leader with commercial instincts, outstanding customer skills and a genuine connection with music and the arts.
If you've successfully led a team in education, performing arts, retail, hospitality, fitness, membership services or another customer-focused business, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver an exceptional experience for students and parents, driving engagement and maximising student enrolment
- Lead and support a team of instructional and administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture
- Manage the school’s Profit & Loss (P&L;), including budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis
- Plan and execute high-quality events that build community and keep students engaged
- Provide outstanding customer service, including billing, scheduling,
and clear communication
- Act as a brand ambassador within the local community, building relationships with businesses, schools, and organisations
- Recruit, onboard, and train staff to ensure success in their roles
- Promote diversity and inclusion, creating a welcoming environment for all
- Monitor and deliver results across key educational and business KPIs
- Oversee marketing, sales, and promotional activities to drive growth
- Ensure a safe and compliant environment for students and staff, including adherence to all safety protocols
Skills & Experience
- 3 years’ experience in management, sales, marketing, or customer service
- Experience managing a P&L; or budget
- Strong customer service focus
- Proven experience recruiting, leading, and managing teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups
- High level of integrity, leadership, and work ethic
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Passion for music and the arts
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to grow a business
