Join our team as the GIS Spatial Systems Team Leader

Lead the future of spatial technology at Redland City Council.

Play a key leadership role within Council's Information Management Unit, leading a team of 4 GIS professionals and driving the strategic direction of Council's enterprise spatial environment.

Leveraging ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal), ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Technology One Mapping and modern GIS capabilities, you will own Council's Spatial Strategy and roadmap while remaining actively involved in the delivery of innovative spatial solutions. This is both a strategic and hands-on position responsible for spatial platforms, data governance, authoritative datasets, integrations, operational and project budgets, and emerging technologies such as cloud GIS, mobile solutions, GeoAI, digital twins, real-time data and spatial analytics.

Working across Asset, Planning, Environment, Infrastructure, Community, Disaster Management and Customer Services, you will help deliver intelligence-led decision making and represent Council externally with industry partners and stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

- People Leadership - Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing GIS Spatial Systems Team, fostering innovation, continuous improvement and qualified growth.
- Strategic Leadership & Roadmap Ownership - Own and deliver Council's Spatial Strategy and enterprise GIS roadmap, ensuring spatial technologies continue to support Council's future business and community needs.
- Enterprise GIS Platforms - Provide leadership and oversight of Council's ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal), ArcGIS Online, Technology One Mapping and associated spatial platforms, integrations and services.
- Spatial Data Governance & Stewardship - Lead the management of spatial data lifecycles, authoritative datasets, metadata, data quality frameworks and governance processes, coordinating the management of both internally and externally sourced spatial data.
- Business Partnership & Spatial Enablement - Partner with business units across Asset Management, Planning, Environment, Infrastructure and Operational Services to identify opportunities where spatial intelligence can improve business outcomes and customer experiences.
- Community, Disaster & Customer Service Support - Support critical Council functions through the delivery of reliable spatial information, mapping services and decision-support capabilities that contribute to community outcomes, disaster preparedness and response, and customer service excellence.
- Innovation & Modernisation - Lead the adoption of emerging spatial technologies and modern GIS capabilities, including GeoAI, digital twins, real-time spatial monitoring, location intelligence, cloud services, mobile GIS and advanced analytics.
- Technical Architecture & Integration - Provide strategic and technical leadership across enterprise GIS architecture, databases, application integrations,



APIs and corporate system interoperability.
- Project Delivery - Manage spatial operations and maintenance projects while leading strategic initiatives and participating in continuous improvement programs that enhance Council's GIS capability.
- Governance & Standards - Develop and maintain policies, standards, operating procedures and best-practice frameworks that underpin Council's spatial services and data assets.
- External Representation - Represent Council in industry forums, vendor engagements, regional collaborations and professional networks to ensure Council remains connected with leading spatial industry practices.

Skills and experience:

- Proven experience leading GIS teams and delivering enterprise-scale spatial information solutions.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing GIS strategies, technology roadmaps and future-state architectures.
- Strong expertise with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and contemporary enterprise GIS environments.
- Experience integrating GIS with Technology One or other corporate business systems
- Strong understanding of spatial data governance, authoritative datasets, metadata management, data quality frameworks and information lifecycle management.
- Experience leading up-to-date GIS capabilities including cloud services, web GIS, mobile GIS, real-time data integration, digital twins, GeoAI and location intelligence solutions.
- Demonstrated success delivering projects using contemporary project management methodologies, including Agile approaches.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills across technical and business audiences.
- Strong understanding of enterprise databases, integrations, APIs and spatial system architectures.
Ability to prepare strategic reports, business cases, governance documentation and operational procedures.

- Highly Regarded:

- Experience within Local Government and an understanding of local government business processes, datasets and service delivery; or
- Equivalent experience gained in utilities, infrastructure, transport, emergency services, environmental management, planning, government, defence or other industries where spatial intelligence supports critical business and community outcomes.
