About Onneer
We're Australian independent ArcGIS specialists and a Gold Esri Partner. Around 30 of us are based in Canberra and work nationally, focused entirely on the Esri ArcGIS platform. That focus is deliberate. It's how we build genuine depth and take on work at real scale.
Join us and you'll be surrounded by people who care deeply about their craft, whether that's GIS, learning design, facilitation, consulting or technology. We value expertise, support each other's growth, and invest heavily in continuous improvement, both individually and as a team.
About the role
This is a role for someone who is passionate about helping people learn.
You'll work as part of our Learning Services team, designing, developing and delivering custom GIS learning experiences for organisations across Australia. Rather than delivering standard software training, we focus on the real workflows our clients are trying to improve, creating practical learning experiences that help people perform better in their roles.
The work is varied. One week you might be facilitating a classroom workshop. The next you might be developing an e-learning module, working with subject matter experts to design a recent course, or helping a client build capability in a specific area of ArcGIS.
We're open to candidates who bring deep experience in learning, education, instructional design or training, as well as candidates with strong GIS experience who enjoy helping others develop. What matters most is your enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to learn, and commitment to contributing to a high performing team.
You won't be expected to know everything on day one. If you bring the right mindset and foundations, we'll help you build the rest.
What GIS is, and how we approach GIS learning
GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. It's the technology and practice organisations use to capture, manage, analyse and present data that has a location attached to it, whether that's an asset register, an environmental dataset, an infrastructure network or a field operation.
Our clients run this work on the Esri ArcGIS platform, and our job in Learning Services is to help their people use it with real confidence, not just click through it.
You don't need to arrive as a GIS expert. What matters more is understanding how people learn, and how to design and deliver training that builds lasting capability rather than surface familiarity with a piece of software.
We build our training using a modified version of ADDIE, a widely used instructional design framework applied across corporate, government and vocational training and assessment settings. We look at a client's people, processes, data and platforms as a whole, before moving through the familiar Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation stages. If your background is in vocational training, instructional design or adult education, this structure will already be familiar to you.
The main difference is the subject matter, and that is the part we will help you build.
The level
We're hiring at either Consultant or Senior Consultant level.
At Consultant level, you'll take ownership of your work, contribute to client engagements and continue developing your expertise in both GIS and learning services. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues while building the confidence, judgement and capability to lead larger pieces of work independently over time.
At Senior Consultant level, you'll take ownership of more complex learning engagements, work directly with clients, and help shape the ongoing growth of our Learning Services practice. You'll be trusted to plan your own work,
build strong client relationships and contribute to the development of the people around you.
Canberra based candidates are strongly preferred, as our Learning Services team is centred here, though exceptional candidates from other locations may be considered.
What you'll do
- Lead the delivery of GIS training across virtual and in-person formats, facilitating workshops, coaching sessions and scenario-based exercises.
- Design and develop GIS training informed by client needs, adult learning principles and real-world workflows.
- Tailor content and delivery to suit the technical level and context of each client and learner group.
- Evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of training, using learner feedback and outcomes to guide improvement.
- Continuously improve learning materials and delivery methods based on this evaluation.
- Provide flexible support across the delivery team, working across multiple functions and client engagements as required.
What you'll bring
- Experience in GIS, learning and development, instructional design, education, training delivery, or a combination of these areas.
- Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A genuine interest in helping others learn and succeed.
- Curiosity, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- The ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a team environment.
- Sound judgement, self-direction and a willingness to take ownership of your work.
- The drive to continually build your own capability and help improve the capability of those around you.
Experience across both GIS and learning is highly regarded, but not essential. You don't need to tick every box. If you're excited by the opportunity, bring strengths in some of these areas, and have the drive to keep learning, we'd encourage you to apply.
We're excited to welcome someone into the team and will be reviewing applications as they come in, rather than waiting until the advertisement closes.
