About the Role

Geraldton Grammar School is seeking an experienced and inspiring educator to lead our Humanities and Social Sciences Department.

The Head of Humanities and Social Sciences will provide curriculum, teaching and people leadership across Years 7 to 12. The successful applicant will lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of Humanities and Social Sciences programs, oversee assessment and reporting practices, support the professional growth of departmental staff, and promote high expectations for student engagement and achievement.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and forward-thinking leader who is passionate about Humanities and Social Sciences education and committed to developing students’ curiosity, critical thinking, inquiry skills and understanding of the world around them.

Key responsibilities include

· Providing strategic direction and leadership for the Humanities and Social Sciences Department.

· Leading curriculum planning, implementation and review across Years 7 to 12.





· Ensuring teaching programs, assessment practices and course documentation meet School and SCSA requirements.

· Promoting engaging, evidence-informed and inclusive teaching practices.

· Monitoring student progress and using achievement data to inform improvement strategies.

· Leading assessment moderation, reporting and departmental quality assurance processes.

· Supporting, mentoring and developing departmental staff.

· Building a team-oriented, accountable and high-performing team culture.

· Managing departmental administration, budgets, resources and records.

· Promoting Humanities and Social Sciences pathways, enrichment activities and community-connected learning opportunities.

· Teaching classes and contributing to the broader curricular and co-curricular life of the School.

Successful Candidate The successful candidate will demonstrate:

· A recognised teaching qualification and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

· Successful teaching experience in Humanities and Social Sciences, preferably across secondary year levels.

· Robust curriculum knowledge and an understanding of contemporary teaching, assessment and reporting practices.

· The ability to lead curriculum planning, moderation and continuous improvement in accordance with SCSA requirements.

· Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to build a collaborative team, establish clear expectations and support staff development.

· The ability to use student achievement data and other evidence to evaluate programs and improve student outcomes.





· Highly developed communication, interpersonal, organisational and problem-solving skills.

· A commitment to student safety, wellbeing, inclusion and educational excellence.

· The capacity to manage departmental resources, records, budgets and competing priorities effectively.

Previous experience in a Head of Department, Head of Learning Area, curriculum leadership or other formal middle leadership role will be highly regarded. Experience teaching or leading senior secondary Humanities and Social Sciences courses, including ATAR or General courses, would also be advantageous.
