Dural Dog Training Centre is looking for an experienced, confident and highly capable Head Trainer to lead our training team and oversee the delivery of high-quality dog training and behaviour programs.

We work with a wide range of dogs across boarding, board and train, private training and behaviour programs. Our goal is to provide practical, effective training while helping owners better understand and communicate with their dogs.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone with strong professional dog-training experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a team while maintaining high standards of training, safety and animal welfare.

About the Role

As Head Trainer at Dural Dog Training Centre, your responsibilities will include:

- Leading, supervising and supporting the dog training team
- Overseeing the delivery of board and train, obedience, private training and behaviour programs
- Assessing dogs and developing appropriate training plans based on their individual needs
- Managing dogs with a range of temperaments, behavioural challenges and training requirements
- Ensuring training plans are implemented consistently across the team
- Teaching and reinforcing obedience skills including engagement, focus, place, recall, loose-lead walking and general manners
- Providing guidance and direction to trainers working with challenging or complex cases
- Conducting training sessions, assessments and client consultations
- Reviewing each dog’s progress and adjusting training plans when required
- Maintaining accurate training records and ensuring staff documentation is completed correctly
- Training, mentoring and developing junior and senior trainers
- Demonstrating effective handling and training techniques to staff and clients
- Supporting client handovers and explaining training methods clearly and confidently




- Ensuring all training is conducted safely, ethically and appropriately
- Monitoring the overall quality and consistency of training across the facility
- Communicating with management regarding dog progress, staff performance, client matters and operational concerns
- Identifying and reporting any concerns regarding a dog’s behaviour, health or wellbeing
- Working closely with kennel attendants and management to maintain consistency across the facility
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and animal welfare
- Ensuring workplace health and safety procedures are followed
- Assisting with general kennel duties and operational tasks when required

Leadership Responsibilities The Head Trainer will play a key role in maintaining the standards and culture of the training department. You will be expected to:
- Lead by example in all aspects of dog handling and workplace conduct
- Set clear expectations for trainers and monitor performance
- Provide constructive feedback and ongoing coaching
- Ensure staff follow individual training plans and facility procedures
- Promote consistency, professionalism and teamwork
- Assist management with improving training systems and processes
- Help resolve training, client and staff issues as they arise
- Maintain a calm, professional and solutions-focused approach in challenging situations

Experience Previous professional experience as a dog trainer is essential.

Experience leading or supervising a training team is highly regarded, as is experience working with behavioural cases,



board and train programs, private clients or complex dogs.

Experience in dog boarding, kennel management, veterinary care, animal behaviour, dog daycare or another animal-related role will also be considered.

The Reality of the Job

This is a hands-on, physically demanding leadership role.

You will spend a large portion of your day on your feet, handling dogs, walking, training, supervising staff, cleaning and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

You will be required to work with dogs that may be difficult or challenging while also supporting trainers and managing competing priorities. The role requires strong decision-making, emotional composure, attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards under pressure.

Being passionate about dogs is important, but so are leadership, accountability, reliability and the ability to communicate clearly with both staff and clients.
