The Deputy General Counsel is a senior member of the Legal and Governance team, working closely with the General Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across the organisation.

- Advise on obligations as a corporate Commonwealth entity , including under the AREA Act and PGPA Act.
- Support the General Counsel in managing external legal advisors and external legal support
- Advise on disputes, negotiations, litigation, and settlement recommendations

- Provid legal input into Board and Committee matters, policies and delegation frameworks
- Develop and improve legal policies, procedures, templates, and tools
- Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and support staff
- Build strong relationships across the organisation and provide practical legal advice that enables delivery rather that just identifying risk

The Candidate The successful candidate will have:

- 4-7 years PAE
- Solid commercial contracting experience , with ability to independently draft and negotiate complex agreements
- Strong knowledge of public and administrative law , contract law , and corporate governance
- Exposure to the PGPA Act , Government procurement , funding/grant agreements , and Commonwealth governance frameworks
- Strong commercial judgement - someone who can provide a recommendation rather than simply identifying risk
