Koo Wee Rup Secondary College (KWRSC) is a medium-sized co-educational public school situated in the high-growth corridor of the Southeastern suburbs. Koo Wee Rup Secondary College is experiencing an exciting transformation, well supported by a high-performing and supportive Leadership Team and a committed group of staff.

Current enrolment is approximately 850 students, with many students travelling by bus to attend the college. Our current staffing profile comprises the Principal, 4.6 Assistant Principals, 7 Leading Teachers and 9.2 Learning Specialists. In total, there are 71 Teachers and 42 Education Support Staff.

Koo Wee

Rup is a progressive community focused on community engagement and support. The school is active in the Cardinia Network, developing strong partnerships with other primary and secondary schools in the network.

The College is situated around attractive, spacious grounds. Previous rebuilds have enabled the update of three learning community centres, with plans to upgrade other areas of the school when the opportunity arises through the Department.

Our vision is ¿to cultivate a respectful, connected community where every individual learns and grows to their fullest potential¿. Koo Wee Rup Secondary College¿s values of Connection, Respect and Growth underpin the decisions we make in designing an effective learning community.

Our value of Connection refers to the connections we support students in building with each other, their teachers, and the wider community. As a school, we also strive to build connections with our parent/carer community to build a strong learning partnership with each student¿s family. We also seek to help students build learning connections and to find links between what they learn at school and the world outside of school.

Our value of Respect celebrates the importance of positive social and learning interactions. We set high expectations of our school community to consider others, learning resources and education with respect. Our value of Growth underpins the opportunities we provide to our students to expand their potential, resilience, and independence.

We believe that with a growth mindset, students can achieve positive change in themselves and their community.

Curriculum offerings in Years 7, 8 and 9 consist of core components covering the key Learning Areas. In Years 9 and 10, elective offerings complement the core subjects. Students can also study VCE subjects as part of their Year 10 studies. In Years 11 and 12, we offer a comprehensive program that allows students to engage in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Vocational Education and Training (VET).

The College has strong connections to the Head Start initiative, and we currently have and will continue to have students undertaking an array of SBAT options. We also offer Certificate II VETDSS on campus to support the priority VET pathways as surfaced by the Firth review and the exciting new VCE VM senior certificate option.

KWRSC has a wide range of extracurricular activities, including Instrumental Music, Musical Productions, and Festivals, as well as excursions, competitions, sports programs, and camps, as approved by the School Council.

Role

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs. Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.

Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

- Instruct students on their specialist instrument/s
- Provide specialist advice, under supervision of senior personnel, to students in relation to the handling and use of materials and equipment
- Provide a child safe environment in accordance with the Child Safe Standards
- Provides instruction or coaching to students not including any duties of a teacher (e.g. instrumental music instruction, sport coaching,

dance instruction)
- Manages the flow of information to staff and students to ensure appropriate awareness of technical operations and safety
- Facilitate individual or group programs for students
- Assist with the provision of a reference service to teachers.
- Apply sound theoretical knowledge and practical expertise
- Develop and implement safety procedures within work and/or teaching areas in accordance with school policy and relevant safety legislation.
- Advise teachers about technical components of curriculum implementation.
- Manage experiments and/or use of equipment and materials under the supervision of teachers and provide basic instruction where required.
