About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Laboratory Manager to join our client's team on an 8/6 FIFO roster. This is a full-time role that will oversee the day-to-day operations of our state-of-the-art laboratory, ensuring efficient and high-quality service delivery, while managing a high-performing team of around 30 people.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead and manage laboratory teams to deliver high-quality analytical and technical services, ensuring accurate, efficient, and timely sample analysis. Leverage strong hands-on experience across XRF, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS operations, applying advanced laboratory techniques to maintain quality, optimise performance, and uphold best-practice standards.
Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed and accurate records pertaining to sample submission, sample preparation progress and archiving of samples.
- Monitor productivity of the laboratory and ensure all samples are progressing in a timely manner.
- Arrange for return of samples and waste materials to clients (if required) in a timely manner, following the correct procedures.
- Ensure all staff are following Health and Safety procedures in all areas of the laboratory.
- Liaise with clients and keep them informed with sample progress and accurate results updates in accordance with the contract.
- Ensure all laboratory work areas are kept clean, functional and uncontaminated and equipment is in working order.
- Maintain the Quality Management System and Laboratory Manuals.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained and regular maintenance is scheduled.
- Responsibility for P&L;, working with a defined budget.
Profile We are looking for candidates who bring solid managerial experience in demanding environments, demonstrate excellent people leadership capabilities, and possess confident, professional client-facing skills. In addition, the ideal candidate will posses:
- Professional qualifications in chemistry or a related discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Experience in laboratory work, sample preparation and chemical knowledge.
- Understanding of acid extraction methods and recognition of sample types.
- Understanding Analytical procedures and XRF, ICP OES, ICP MS operations and laboratory techniques.
- Competent in using CCLAS LIMS.
- Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels.
