Camberwell Grammar School is an independent Anglican day school for boys from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a team-orientated, enthusiastic, life-long learner, to join our Junior School, as a casual Learning Assistant.

You will work under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers, supporting targeted boys, some with specific learning needs. You will work individually or in small groups in and out of the classroom. In addition, this role supports classroom teachers and the Head of Learning Enhancement with individual students and other classroom assessments.

Some minor administrative duties may also be required. Relevant qualifications and experience working within a school setting would be highly regarded.

Key responsibilities include

- Assisting student learning, under the direction of a teacher, with individual and small groups of students.
- Providing close supervision and assistance in classrooms and the playground, including some scheduled recess and lunchtime periods.
- Monitoring and supporting core classroom groups during set tasks while the classroom teacher works with small groups or individual students.
- Working as part of a team and liaise with the Head of Learning Enhancement, classroom teachers, and all staff supporting students with additional needs.
- Always encouraging positive social interaction with peers.
- Using your initiative to support students to manage and complete tasks, whilst maintaining focus.
- Accompanying students on camps, excursions and other out of school activities when required.
- Attending professional development sessions specifically targeting strategies and accommodations to meet the needs of students and at the request of the Head of Learning Enhancement.

This is a casual, term time, position commencing in Term 1, 2027, with the successful applicant required to work a minimum of two days per week, with flexibility to work additional hours to cover staff absences. The role is based in a progressive, supportive and well-resourced educational environment.

ABOUT YOU

You are a reliable Learning Assistant with a positive mindset, who understands the importance of maintaining strict confidentiality when supporting students. You demonstrate an understanding of the educational, social and emotional needs of children with learning disabilities and other specific learning needs. A genuine passion for meeting the educational needs of primary school-aged students, along with a willingness to engage in ongoing professional development, is also required.

Qualifications

- Certificate III in School Based Education Support, or equivalent (desirable)
- Working with Children Check
- National Crime Check
- Asthma and Anaphylaxis training certification
