About the Role
Rumbalara has partnered with Kids Under Cover to establish the model called Village 21 which is a small-scale supported housing model designed to provide safe, stable and community-oriented housing for young people ageing out of Out of Home Care and are at risk of homelessness. The model combines affordable supported housing with in office mentoring and community connection to help young people transition toward sustainable independence.
Live in Mentors is a Volunteer Arrangement.
About You To be successful for this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
- You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with young people.
- Ability to build rapport to model positive behaviour and contribute to a healthy community culture.
- Maintain respectful and appropriate boundaries with young people.
- Capacity to live and work within a shared community environment.
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in Youth Work, Community Services.
- Expertise in Aboriginal culture, community, and values.
- Ability to work with young people in a supportive, respectful, and culturally safe manner.
- Model positive behaviours, healthy routines, and independent living skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication,
negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience or understanding of trauma-informed behaviours or practice to provide culturally safe support. Willingness to live on site and work collaboratively with a female co-mentor.
Desirable
- Experience in working with young people, community, housing, or Aboriginal services.
- Knowledge of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks.
- Experience mentoring or coaching young people. First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to undertake training.
