Role Description This is a part-time, 3-week locum role for a Probate Lawyer or Law Clerk in a hybrid working arrangement, based in Richmond, VIC with some flexibility for work from home. The role involves managing probate files, including preparing applications for probate and letters of administration, and liaising with clients and external stakeholders such as courts and trustees. The successful candidate will draft and review legal documents, maintain accurate file notes, and ensure matters progress in a timely manner.
Day-to-day tasks include legal research on estate and succession issues, responding to client queries,. The locum will be expected to uphold firm standards, meet deadlines,
and provide clear, professional communication.
Qualifications
- Relevant legal qualifications (LLB/JD and admission to practice as a lawyer, or a recognised law clerk/legal studies qualification) and eligibility to work in Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in probate, estates, or succession law, including preparing and lodging probate applications and administering estates.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and document review skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in written work.
- Effective client communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
- Solid organisational and time management abilities, with capacity to manage multiple files, meet court and administrative deadlines, and work independently in a hybrid workplace.
- Proficiency with standard legal practice management software, electronic filing systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Previous experience in a small to medium commercial practice, and exposure to property or commercial disputes matters, is advantageous.
