Maths Tutor | Years 7–12, including Extension 2

Alfred’s Maths Tutoring · Alfreducation · Eastwood https://alfredmaths.com.au We’re looking for a knowledgeable, patient maths tutor who can teach secondary mathematics up to and including Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2. University students, pre-service teachers and experienced tutors are welcome to apply.

Earn up to $120/hour teaching maths in small groups. Starting rates are $35–$70/hour, depending on experience and course. The maximum applies to experienced tutors teaching Stage 6 Extension 2 to six enrolled students.

Teaching that responds to students

Our lessons follow students’ school topics and upcoming assessments. We adapt our teaching to address gaps, extend understanding and prepare students for their school exams. You’ll use original NSW syllabus-aligned materials written by Alfred, including theory, worked examples, homework and assessment preparation resources.

The role

- Teach two-hour group lessons across Years 7–12, with a maximum of six students.
- Teach Stage 6 Advanced, Stage 6 Extension 1 and Stage 6 Extension 2.
- Break down difficult problems into explicit, understandable steps.
- Review students’ work and give specific, constructive feedback.
- Adapt lessons to current school topics and assessment needs.
- Help students build confidence, independence and enjoyment in maths.

What we’re looking for

- Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics through Year 12 Extension 2.
- Clear communication and a patient approach to teaching.
- Reliability, preparation and genuine care for students’ progress.
- Availability on selected days from Monday to Saturday at our Eastwood centre.

Teaching pay

Your rate depends on your experience, the course taught and enrolled class size. Starting rates below apply to one enrolled student. All figures are in Australian dollars.

Limited tutoring experience

Stages 4–5 / Stage 6 Advanced Starting: $35/hour · $70 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students:



$85/hour · $170 per 2-hour lesson

Stage 6 Extension 1

Starting: $40/hour · $80 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students: $90/hour · $180 per 2-hour lesson

Stage 6 Extension 2

Starting: $45/hour · $90 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students: $95/hour · $190 per 2-hour lesson

Experienced maths tutor

Stages 4–5 / Stage 6 Advanced Starting: $50/hour · $100 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students: $100/hour · $200 per 2-hour lesson

Stage 6 Extension 1

Starting: $60/hour · $120 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students: $110/hour · $220 per 2-hour lesson

Stage 6 Extension 2

Starting: $70/hour · $140 per 2-hour lesson

With 6 students: $120/hour · $240 per 2-hour lesson

Each additional enrolled student adds $10 per hour, or $20 per two-hour lesson, up to six students.

The maximum rate of $120/hour applies to an experienced maths tutor teaching Stage 6 Extension 2 to six enrolled students. Class sizes vary; a full class is not guaranteed.

Your experience band is assessed through relevant tutoring or school teaching experience and demonstrated teaching ability. University students and pre-service teachers may qualify for either band. The agreed band and course rates will be confirmed before you start. Rates are gross teaching pay before income tax. Temporarily absent enrolled students do not reduce the agreed class-size rate.

Alfred’s Maths Tutoring is an independent tutoring centre in Eastwood. Founder Alfred taught mathematics at high schools between 2013 and 2022. Location: Suite 301, 33–43 Rowe Street, Eastwood
