Mechanical Fitter – Leading Hand | Perth

Lead from the front. Stay hands-on. Work on real marine projects.

Griffin Marine is growing in Perth and we’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter – Leading Hand to join our team. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled Mechanical Fitter who can lead and support a team, coordinate day-to-day work and still get stuck in on the tools.

Griffin Marine is a leading marine service provider specialising in multi-disciplinary industrial services and project management. We work across Defence and commercial marine projects, delivering high-quality mechanical, fabrication and maintenance services to a diverse range of clients.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Mechanical Fitter – Leading Hand, you will help coordinate the team and ensure mechanical work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Your responsibilities will include

- Leading and supporting Mechanical Fitters and other trades on site
- Fitting, assembling and installing mechanical components, piping and equipment on marine vessels
- Fault-finding, repairing and maintaining engines, pumps, valves and propulsion systems
- Working from technical drawings, manuals and engineering specifications
- Carrying out preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs
- Coordinating daily tasks and allocating work across the team
- Monitoring job progress and helping ensure work is completed to schedule
- Working closely with supervisors, engineers,



welders and other trades
- Providing hands-on guidance and support to less experienced team members
- Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship
- Identifying issues early and helping resolve problems on the job
- Leading by example and contributing to a positive team workplace

What You Will Bring

We’re looking for someone who is confident leading a team, takes pride in their trade and isn’t afraid to get hands-on.

You will ideally have

- Trade Certificate in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting & Machining) or equivalent
- Several years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a marine, defence, shipbuilding, fabrication or similar industrial environment
- Previous experience in a Leading Hand, Senior Fitter or supervisory capacity
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to coordinate daily work activities
- A proactive approach to safety, quality and productivity
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work independently while supporting and leading a team
- A strong work ethic and pride in your workmanship

Qualifications & Requirements

- Trade Certificate in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting & Machining) or equivalent
- Current Construction White Card
- Valid C-Class Driver’s Licence
- Ability to obtain or hold a valid National Police Clearance




- Confined Space and Working at Heights tickets highly desirable
- Marine or Defence industry experience highly regarded
