If you enjoy working out why machinery has stopped - and getting it moving again - this could be the next step in your mechanical maintenance career.

Based at a major automated distribution centre in Somerton Melbourne, you'll work as part of a team with conveyors, lifts, shuttles, sortation equipment and other automated material-handling systems that operate around the clock.

Some shifts will be focused on planned maintenance and keeping equipment performing reliably. Others will involve responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults under pressure and working with electrical, controls and engineering specialists to find the solution.

You do not need to know our equipment before you join us. If you are a qualified mechanical tradesperson with strong industrial maintenance and fault-finding experience, we will help you build your knowledge of our automation systems and technology.

What You’ll Do

- Diagnose mechanical faults and get automated equipment back into operation.
- Complete planned maintenance, repairs, adjustments and component replacements.
- Work across conveyors, lifts, shuttles, sorters and palletising systems.
- Work with electrical, controls, engineering and international technical support teams on more complex issues.
- Investigate recurring equipment problems and contribute to practical, lasting improvements.
- Support a positive, productive, and safety-first culture within the customer’s operational team.

What You’ll Bring

- A recognised mechanical trade qualification or an equivalent qualification relevant to industrial mechanical maintenance.
- At least 2 years’ hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and repair.

- Experience with industrial machinery in manufacturing, processing, logistics or another operational environment.
- The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, manuals and technical information.
- A logical, hands-on approach to finding and fixing faults.
- Solid communication skills and a professional approach to working with customers and colleagues.
- The ability to work independently while still being part of a close site-based team.
- Availability to work the full rotating roster.

What would put you ahead of the rest

- Automated warehouse or material-handling equipment
- Conveyors, lifts, shuttles, sorters or palletising systems
- Pneumatic, hydraulic or mechatronic systems
- Computerised maintenance management systems
- Root cause analysis and reliability improvement
- PLC or variable speed drive fault-finding

Experience with automated equipment, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, mechatronics or computerised maintenance systems would be an advantage, but is not essential. What matters most is a strong mechanical foundation, practical fault-finding ability and a willingness to learn. Current Working at Heights, Rescue from Heights and First Aid qualifications would also be well regarded.
