Role Description The RPN2 provides specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic setting. The role combines therapeutic engagement, recovery-focused practice, risk management, care coordination and participation in multidisciplinary treatment programs.

RPN2s may also rotate through the Early Intervention Support Team (EIST), supporting clinical teams with de-escalation, behavioural management and therapeutic engagement across the hospital.

Training will be provided.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

 Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA

 Minimum of Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (or recognised equivalent)





 Eligibility to work in Australia

 Ability to satisfy police and security screening requirements

Preferred Experience

Minimum Experience

 Typically 2+ years post-registration psychiatric nursing experience

Highly Desirable Experience

 Adult inpatient mental health

 Acute psychiatric units

 Secure mental health environments

 Forensic mental health settings

 Psychiatric intensive care units (PICU)

 Correctional or prison health services

 High dependency mental health environments

Clinical Capability Requirements

Demonstrated ability to:

 Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments

 Develop and implement recovery-focused care plans

 Manage challenging behaviours

 Undertake risk assessment and risk management planning

 Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning

 Administer and monitor psychotropic medications

 Deliver group-based therapeutic interventions

 Engage consumers experiencing severe and persistent mental illness
