Role Description The RPN2 provides specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic setting. The role combines therapeutic engagement, recovery-focused practice, risk management, care coordination and participation in multidisciplinary treatment programs.
RPN2s may also rotate through the Early Intervention Support Team (EIST), supporting clinical teams with de-escalation, behavioural management and therapeutic engagement across the hospital.
Training will be provided.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
Minimum of Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (or recognised equivalent)
Eligibility to work in Australia
Ability to satisfy police and security screening requirements
Preferred Experience
Minimum Experience
Typically 2+ years post-registration psychiatric nursing experience
Highly Desirable Experience
Adult inpatient mental health
Acute psychiatric units
Secure mental health environments
Forensic mental health settings
Psychiatric intensive care units (PICU)
Correctional or prison health services
High dependency mental health environments
Clinical Capability Requirements
Demonstrated ability to:
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
Develop and implement recovery-focused care plans
Manage challenging behaviours
Undertake risk assessment and risk management planning
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning
Administer and monitor psychotropic medications
Deliver group-based therapeutic interventions
Engage consumers experiencing severe and persistent mental illness
