Port Kembla

SCE will be operating a new, modern plant to deliver safe and efficient slag handling operations at the No.6 Blast Furnace at Port Kembla Steel Works and are looking for operators to join the team.

This is a hands-on heavy industrial role working around the blast furnace, specialised mobile equipment and molten slag. You will be part of a new operation using brand-new plant and equipment, with the opportunity to build skills across several different operating roles working across a rotating 12 hour day/night shift roster.

What you'll be doing

As a multi-skilled operator in the Slag Handling team, you will be operating heavy mobile equipment such as Kress Carriers and CAT 990 front-end loaders, managing molten slag on the Casthouse Floor and supporting the wider slag handling operations.

You will be trained to work across a range of slag handling activities, including:

- Operating Kress Slag Pot Carriers, transporting and handling pots of molten slag
- Managing liquid slag on the Casthouse floor at No.6 Blast Furnace and the Slag Granulation Plant
- Operating heavy mobile equipment such as Cat 990 front-end loaders
- Completing pre-starts and routine operational inspections
- Monitoring equipment and operating conditions
- Identifying and reporting hazards, defects and operational issues
- Providing relief across different operating positions
- Working closely under the direction of the Shift Team Leader, in support of plant operations and maintenance

· Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safe work practices

What we're looking for

You will be working around heat,

heavy equipment, molten materials and large-scale industrial processes. Previous experience as an operator in these areas is highly regarded.

We are equally interested in people with transferable skills, who are enthusiastic and proactive in their approach to safety and learning.

We are on the lookout for dedicated team players who possess:

- A strong commitment to safety
- Reliability and a proactive work ethic
- Good communication skills and teamwork
- The ability to follow procedures and instructions
- A strong desire and willingness to learn new equipment and processes
- The ability to work a rotating day and night shift roster

Relevant mobile plant licences including Front-end loader/Skid steer/Forklift licenses/HR licence is desirable. Why Join SCE?

This is a rare opportunity to join a team while the operation is still being established.

The plant is new. The equipment is new. The team is new.

You will have the opportunity to learn the operation and processes from the beginning and build experience and knowledge in one of the Illawarra's most significant heavy industrial environments.

The role also offers the chance to live and work in the Illawarra, with access to beaches, national parks and a relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Take the Next Step

If you enjoy practical work, operating heavy equipment and being part of a close operational team — and want to work right at the heart of the Port Kembla Steelworks — we want to hear from you.

Apply now to join SCE's Slag Handling Operations team.
