About the role
Sam’s Spares is a dynamic and growing social enterprise creating real employment opportunities for neurodivergent people while refurbishing donated IT technology for sale, donation and reuse.
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operational flow of the organisation and lead our expanding warehouse and operations team.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who naturally sees what needs to be done, brings structure to busy environments, and takes responsibility for making sure work moves through the organisation efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate our warehouse and workshop team of 5 staff, as well as volunteers
- Manage daily workflow, priorities and allocation of work
- Oversee inventory management, stock processing, refurbishment flow and e-waste recycling
- Manage incoming technology, outgoing customer orders and logistics
- Ensure stock moves efficiently from arrival through assessment, refurbishment, sale, donation, auction or recycling
- Improve warehouse systems, layout, processes and productivity
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and operational issues and implement practical solutions
- Oversee warehouse and equipment management, including layout, procurement, maintenance and upkeep
- Maintain a safe, organised and efficient workplace
- Coordinate corporate volunteer groups
- Support and lead a neurodiverse team using clear, direct and kind communication
- Take ownership of operational outcomes and think ahead to what comes next
About you We are looking for someone who is:
- Genuinely excited about what Sam’s Spares does and aligned with our workplace values
- Fast-paced, highly organised and conscientious
- Someone who naturally notices disorder, inefficiency or unfinished work and takes action to fix it
- Comfortable giving and receiving direct but respectful feedback and instructions
- Proactive and willing to take responsibility
- Able to identify problems and improvements and follow through with solutions
- Genuinely appreciative of neurodiversity and comfortable leading people with different strengths, communication styles and ways of working
- Commercially minded and comfortable operating in a growing social enterprise
- Experienced in operations, warehouse management, logistics or a similar environment
Knowledge of IT equipment is highly valued, but it is not essential. Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn are more important.
Our culture
We are proud of our unique workplace culture. We focus on capability and recognise that there is no single “right” way of working. Different people work differently, and we value the strengths they bring.
Our team comes from different backgrounds, experiences and beliefs, but what we share is energy and enthusiasm for the work we do.
Making money is not why Sam’s Spares exists, but it is how we create sustainable employment and community impact. Commercial thinking and entrepreneurial problem-solving are therefore an important part of how we operate.
As a registered Public Benevolent Institution, eligible employees also have access to generous PBI salary packaging perks.
This role may particularly suit someone coming from the commercial sector who is looking for the same level of challenge, accountability and operational responsibility, but wants their work to have a stronger social purpose. We are deliberately offering a competitive salary because we want to attract strong commercial capability into Sam’s Spares.
Location The role is currently based in Gosnells, with relocation likely within the next 12 months.
