About the role The primary role of a Residential Care Worker is to provide the wellbeing and health, emotional and physical day-to-day care for the Children and Young People in Care.
Key responsibilities
- Assist and encourage the young people with daily activities including homework, sporting activities, chores and personal hygiene
- Maintain the household: ensuring the household is maintained in a satisfactory manner, including all domestic tasks (e.g. cleaning, cooking, shopping, minor maintenance and upkeep)
- Ensure the rights of young people are protected and respected at all times
- Ensure the procedures relating to recordkeeping and communication processes are followed. Accurate and appropriate information must be recorded in the relevant communication book and client file
- Maintain records of unit expenditure and provide receipts for any purchases to ensure petty cash balances at all times
- Ensure a thorough handover is completed when starting and finishing shifts
- Follow all policies and procedures as stipulated by the relevant organization
- Ensure safety for both yourself and the young person at all times when transporting
- Arrive to supervised contact on time as visitation times for the young person and their parents are specific and limited
- Record what you see, hear and smell during contact supervisions
About you
- Cert III in Individual Support or Cert IV in Disability
- Diploma of Community Services or equivalent mandatory
- Completion of mandatory Trauma Informed Care units
- Proven, demonstrated experience in working with young people
- Excellent Communication skills, written and oral
- Demonstrated skill in supporting people with major behaviours of concern with a positive and therapeutic framework
- An understanding of Therapeutic Support Models is highly regarded
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, to achieve program goals and objectives
