Bespoke Family Lawyers
Brisbane City
A people-focused family law firm. A genuinely supportive team. A role where you can make a difference.
At Bespoke Family Lawyers, we believe people are not defined by the hardest chapter of their lives. With clarity, compassion and expert guidance, they have the capacity to intentionally create what comes next.
We are a boutique Brisbane family law firm combining high-quality legal advice with a deeply human approach because, behind every file, there is a person and a family going through what can be one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
We are growing our team and are looking for an experienced Paralegal / Legal Assistant who shares that philosophy.
This is an opportunity for someone who loves being organised, takes pride in the detail, enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and genuinely cares about providing an exceptional client experience.
The role
You will work closely with our family lawyers and paralegals across a varied family law practice involving parenting, property and financial matters, financial agreements, child support, mediation and Court proceedings.
Your role will combine legal administration, client support and hands-on paralegal work.
No two days will be exactly the same. You might be preparing documents for an upcoming mediation, speaking with a client about information we need from them, collating disclosure, preparing an electronic brief for Counsel, filing Court documents or making sure the next steps on a matter are already underway.
Importantly, we don't want someone who simply waits for the next task to arrive.
We value people who are curious, proactive and thoughtful — someone who can look ahead, anticipate what might be needed next and help our lawyers and clients keep matters moving.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include
- communicating warmly and professionally with clients, lawyers, barristers, experts and other professionals;
- supporting clients through the administrative aspects of their family law matter and helping them understand what we need from them;
- assisting lawyers with the day-to-day progression of matters and following up outstanding information and documents;
- preparing correspondence, court documents, briefs and other legal documents;
- organising and reviewing disclosure and preparing Lists of Disclosure Documents;
- supporting matter preparation, evidence collation, and document management;
- electronic Court filing and legal searches;
- managing tasks, deadlines, appointments and important matter dates;
- maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic files in line with firm standards
- assisting with costs agreements, retainers, trust top-ups and costs administration;
- providing general administrative and legal support to ensure matters progress efficiently; and
- helping us continually improve our precedents, systems and workflows.
The level of responsibility will reflect your experience. For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to develop greater paralegal responsibility and autonomy over time.
Who we're looking for
You will ideally have at least 1–2 years' experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, Law Clerk or in a similar legal support role.
Family law or litigation experience would be highly regarded, but it isn't essential. We are equally interested in finding someone with solid foundations, excellent judgement and the right approach who wants to develop their career in family law.
You are likely to thrive at Bespoke if you:
- are highly organised and get genuine satisfaction from keeping things moving;
- have excellent attention to detail and take pride in producing high-quality work;
- communicate confidently and professionally by telephone and email;
- are warm and empathetic while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries;
- take ownership of your work and follow things through rather than waiting to be reminded;
- can manage competing priorities and recognise what needs attention first;
- think about possible solutions before simply escalating a problem;
- are comfortable saying when you've made a mistake or need help;
- enjoy learning, feedback and developing your skills;
- are confident with technology and interested in finding smarter ways to work; and
- want to contribute to a team rather than simply work alongside one.
Why Bespoke?
We are a close-knit team who genuinely support one another. We share knowledge, collaborate on matters, celebrate each other's successes and aren't afraid to ask for help.
We invest in our people and believe in creating opportunities for them to grow. You'll work alongside experienced family lawyers who enjoy mentoring and developing others, with regular feedback and opportunities to expand your skills and responsibilities.
You'll also be joining a firm that is constantly looking at how we can improve — whether that's our client experience, our systems, our technology or simply the way we work together.
We want your ideas too.
The person matters
We know that experience and technical skills are important.
But for us, who you are and how you work matter just as much.
We can teach systems and processes. We can help you develop your family law knowledge. What is harder to teach is curiosity, initiative, kindness, self-awareness and genuine care for the people around you.
If you're looking for a role where you can contribute, learn and become an important part of a team doing family law differently, we'd love to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV and a short cover letter telling us a little about you, why this role interests you and what you think you would bring to the Bespoke team.
