Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) committed to healing, supporting, serving and protecting Aboriginal communities across the Mallee region. About the role
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal children, young people and families.
Join MDAS as a Restoring & Strengthening Families Practitioner and work alongside families experiencing complex or ongoing challenges. You’ll provide practical, culturally safe and child-focused support to strengthen families, improve wellbeing and help keep children secure and connected to family, community and culture.
This is a full time ongoing position based in Mildura.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide case management and therapeutic family support to children, young people and families receiving Family Services through the Strengthening Families and Restoring Families streams.
- Complete assessments of child safety, wellbeing, development, parenting capacity, family functioning, cultural strengths,
risks and protective factors using the Best Interests Case Practice Model and MARAM Framework
- Deliver evidence-informed interventions including Family Services Practice Modules and other approved therapeutic approaches.
- Promote cultural identity, cultural safety and connection to Aboriginal family, community and Country.
- Support safe restoration and reunification of children where this aligns with case plan goals and child safety requirements
- Contribute to Child and Family Alliance activities and integrated service responses across the Mallee region.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Solid case management, assessment, advocacy and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of Child Protection, family services and relevant practice frameworks.
- An understanding of Aboriginal culture, values and culturally safe practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients, families and professionals.
- A Degree, Diploma, Certificate IV or relevant qualification or experience in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Community Services, Welfare, Child Development or a related field.
Other Requirements
- Current National Police Check.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check
- Current Driver's Licence
