Referment is working with an Australian insurance underwriting agency that combines specialist underwriting judgement with modern technology to provide personal, commercial and specialist cover through insurance brokers.

This Pricing Analyst will sit within the pricing and portfolio function, working across insurance products and distribution channels. The role blends hands-on rating implementation with data analysis, testing and investigation, making it well suited to someone who enjoys understanding both the commercial purpose and technical mechanics behind a price.

You’ll use SQL and Python to support rating and data processes, implement pricing changes through a rating engine and help ensure outputs remain accurate. You’ll also turn claims, exposure and market data into analysis that informs pricing reviews and portfolio decisions.

The Role

- Implement and maintain rating algorithms across insurance products and distribution channels.

- Develop and maintain SQL code and Python scripts used in pricing, testing, automation and data preparation.

- Deliver pricing and rate changes through the rating engine and associated systems.

- Monitor rating outputs, investigate calculation anomalies and identify the root causes of data or system issues.

- Prepare data extracts and analysis for pricing reviews and portfolio performance assessments.

- Analyse claims experience, exposure data and market information to support pricing decisions.

- Respond to premium-calculation queries and provide pricing support to business stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

- A degree in actuarial studies, statistics, mathematics, data science, economics, engineering, computer science or another quantitative discipline.

- Strong SQL skills and confidence manipulating, validating and analysing large datasets.

- Practical experience developing and maintaining Python scripts for analytical, testing, automation or data-preparation work.

- Experience investigating data, calculation and system issues, with careful attention to testing and quality.

- Clear communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Relevant Desirable Experience

Around three years’ skilled experience in a pricing role is preferred. Progress towards actuarial qualifications would be valued but is not required.

This could suit an insurance pricing analyst, actuarial analyst or quantitatively strong portfolio analyst who wants to remain hands-on with rating systems, code and portfolio data.
