Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in 1977 and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market.

Currently, the Australian operation of HRC is working on two major projects:

- The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project - a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of recent intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines; and
- The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) - a project commissioning, designing and constructing a new manufacturing facility in Torbanlea Qld and a new maintenance facility in Ormeau Qld. It includes manufacturing and delivering 65 EMU Train sets (390 cars) by the end of 2031.

Combined local and international design teams and suppliers will work together to ensure the delivery of manufacturing requirements and associated documentation to ensure that train sets locally manufactured in Australia meet the design, compliance, manufactuability, reliability, maintainability and safety specifications for the trains operational life for a minimum of at least 35 years.

1. PROJECT OVERVIEW The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) is a multibillion dollar project to manufacture and deliver 65 trains by the end 2031. The project includes the design, construction and commissioning of a new manufacturing facility in Torbanlea, a new maintenance facility in Ormeau and 65 train sets (390 cars).

The new train sets will be fully manufactured and tested at Torbanlea Manufacturing Facility. The state of art train design – incorporating class-leading safety, communications, security, accessibility, amenity and comfort for passengers and rail operational staff - will meet all specifications and contemporary design standards.



A combined local and overseas team will be in work in cooperation with Fraser Coast businesses and Queensland rolling stock equipment suppliers to deliver this remarkable project.

2. ROLE OVERVIEW The Production Engineer (Fitout) implements and stabilises standard production processes as part of developmental and series production activities to achieve time, cost and quality objectives.

Working as part of a joint-venture team, the Production Engineer will be integral part of the Transfer of Technology (ToT) phase to optimize 4M manufacturing principles (Man Methods, Material and Machine) of interior & exterior Carbody fitout stations.

Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement are an inherent part of the role, which will involve method studies, identifying bottlenecks, production troubleshooting, reviewing and updating technical documents, process improvement (including design review) to improve productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

The Production Engineer is responsible for the process and operational safety requirements with the support of the Zero Harm team.

This role requires collaboration with various teams, monitoring production metrics, and ensuring compliance with technical, safety and quality standards.

This is a full-time permanent position at the new QTMP manufacturing facility located in Torbanlea, Queensland

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Deliver a comprehensive DILO (Day-in-the-life) model using the 3P (Production, Preparation and Process) to prepare for the day one production readiness.

- Develop, produce and update technical documents to include work instructions, modification instructions, installation drawings, Etc.

- Ensure that all Methods' technical information is up-to-date, complete and available on time.

- Liaise with the Engineering and Methods functions using the DfMA process to optimise the design.

- Troubleshoot the manufacturing of mechanical processes (fitout) in the manufacturing and assembly workshops.

- Working with the production team to optimise and debug the design and the build methodology.

- Design and modify mechanical fit-out processes, including assembled jigs and their interfaces to ensure compatibility and efficiency.





- Validating the methods, equipment, tooling, consumables and processes to meet production requirements and to achieve stability in series production.

- Perform production-line balancing with resources and skills requirements using Value Stream Analysis, Yamazumi chart or similar tools.

- Ensure build process instruction meets production needs in liaison with the Production Engineering team and the Zero Harm team.

- Liaise with stakeholders and support functions to lead a comprehensive Validation of Industrialisation Process (VIP) readiness to achieve series production.

- Ensure that the introduction of design changes is effectively coordinated.
- Provide oversight and control of bonding, sealing, torque certification and update the training documents (as required).
- Act as a first responder to production stoppages to solve methods-related problems to ensure production continuity.

4. DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

- Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or similar).
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the manufacture or overhaul of rollingstock, or similar product manufacturing.

- Demonstrable practical experience in the use of contemporary production engineering methodologies.

- Ability to analyze and modify jig designs for optimized production performance.

- A good understanding and practical experience in the use bonding and sealing methods.

- Has a good knowledge of DfMA or Value Improvement Process (VIP) principles.

- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve interface conflicts or design inefficiencies.

- Experience in SAP or similar ERP systems.

- Has a basic skill of CATIA V6 & AutoCAD (operating & modification) and is able to interpret mechanical, pneumatic and interior (fitout) assembly drawings.

- Has a basic skill of MS software (Power point, Excel, Word)

- A practical working knowledge of cross-functional related disciplines within the project organization.
