AI Lead / 12 Months day rate contract / Sydney

About the Company

Our client is a public sector education organisatoin, driving applied AI innovation through its dedicated AI Hub. Sydney based, the Hub supports the organisation push to embed responsible generative AI across research, teaching and student services, with evaluation and governance central to that growth.

About the Role
In this role you'll build the evaluation framework from scratch, lead pre release testing and governance sign off, and monitor production AI services for drift and risk. You'll partner closely with product, delivery and technical teams, plus ICT, Legal, Privacy and data stewardship stakeholders across the AI Hub.

Duties / Key Responsibilities

- Build and continuously improve AI evaluation frameworks, methodologies and standards across the AI Hub portfolio.
- Design and govern evaluation datasets, metrics and testing approaches covering performance, reliability, safety and quality.
- Lead pre release testing and assurance, giving governance bodies the independent evidence they need to approve deployment.
- Run ongoing monitoring and regression testing on production AI services, catching drift and risk early.
- Partner with technical teams, data stewards and governance stakeholders on data integrity and compliance, while lifting AI evaluation capability across the university.





Skills and Experience

- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Robust track record in data science, ML, NLP and AI solutions inside complex organisations.
- Solid grip on generative AI, LLMs, agentic AI frameworks and current data science methods.
- Sharp analytical and problem solving skills, comfortable interpreting complex data to support evidence based decisions.
- Proven experience building evaluation, monitoring and training frameworks.
- Strong communicator who can work the room across Agile, cross functional teams and senior stakeholders.
- Unrestricted Australian work rights required, no visa sponsorship available.
