RS Shipwrights

Oyster Cove

This position is for an experienced, currently capable shipwright — not someone looking to relearn the trade on the job.

RS Shipwrights is a growing marine repair and refit business based in Port Stephens. Our work includes high-end timber restoration and teak, fibreglass repairs and modifications, custom fit-outs, gel coat repairs and precision paintwork.

Our standard of finish is extremely high, and this position requires someone who can genuinely work at that level.

We are looking for a qualified shipwright or highly experienced marine tradesperson with proven, relevant hands-on experience who can confidently carry out professional boat repair and refit work.

You must be able to demonstrate:

- Current, practical experience in shipwrighting, boat building or professional marine repairs
- Strong skills in timber, fibreglass/composites, gel coat, fairing, finishing and/or marine fit-out work
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce a clean, skilled finish
- The ability to follow instructions and established processes without cutting corners
- Good organisation, communication and time management
- Reliability and the ability to work productively as part of a small team
- Basic competence with digital systems, including completing onboarding documentation, timesheets and job information accurately and on time
- Reliable transport to our Port Stephens workshop

A qualification alone will not be enough. If you have been out of the marine industry for an extended period, we will assess your current practical capability and experience accordingly. Likewise, this is not an entry-level position and is not suitable for someone requiring extensive supervision or training in fundamental shipwright tasks.

What we offer;

For the right person, this is a genuine long-term full-time position within a busy and growing business.

We offer competitive remuneration based on demonstrated skill, current experience and capability, with the opportunity to work across varied, technically interesting projects rather than repetitive production work.

We take pride in what leaves our workshop, and we expect our tradespeople to take the same pride in their work.

If you are skilled, reliable, organised and particular about the quality of your finish, we want to hear from you.

Please send your CV and a brief outline of your recent, relevant marine experience to [email protected].

Applicants should also be prepared to provide examples or photographs of recent work and complete a practical trial as part of the recruitment process.

Work location: Port Stephens — in person

Employment: Full-time/Casual

Pay: $38.00 – $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38.0 – 42.0 per week

Work Location: In person
