Are you an experienced Project Accountant who enjoys being close to the action rather than sitting behind month-end reports? Our client is a well-established and growing construction business seeking a commercially minded Senior Project Accountant to join their team in Blacktown. Working closely with Project Managers, Divisional Managers, Estimators, and the CFO, you'll play a critical role in driving project performance, profitability, and commercial decision-making across a diverse portfolio of projects.

As a key member of the finance team, you will be responsible for project accounting, job costing, contract performance analysis, and commercial reporting across multiple entities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with Project Managers and operational stakeholders to review project performance and profitability.
- Managing project accounting and job costing activities across multiple contracts.
- Updating and reviewing revenue claims to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Preparing contract valuations, forecasting final contract margins, and analysing project outcomes.
- Identifying project risks, opportunities, cost variances, and performance trends.
- Managing contract variations and supporting commercial decision-making.
- Reconciling high-volume labour costing transactions and monitoring subcontractor compliance.
- Managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations across multiple entities.
- Taking ownership of labour on-cost processes and reporting.
- Supporting accounting, billing,
and depreciation of significant construction assets and component inventory.
- Leading the implementation and ongoing management of profit centres and cost centres across operational divisions.
- Working closely with the CFO to enhance reporting, business intelligence, and data visibility across the organisation.
- Assisting with the development of Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
To be successful, you'll bring:
- Previous experience as a Cost Controller, Project Accountant, Cost Accountant, Commercial Accountant, or Senior Project Accountant.
- Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, manufacturing, or another project-based environment.
- Robust knowledge of job costing, project accounting, contract accounting, and margin forecasting.
- CA/CPA Qualified
- Experience managing multiple entities and intercompany reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work with large datasets.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and confidence partnering with operational teams.
- Exposure to Power BI, Power Query, Power Apps, or Microsoft Power Platform tools is highly desirable.
- A proactive and commercially focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
