Take the next step in your career with this exciting opportunity within Pathology Queensland. The Shift Scientist role at PQ TPCH Core Laboratory works day and evening shifts as a member of the laboratory team to provide a 24/7 multidisciplinary pathology service across Chemical Pathology, CSR, Haematology/Transfusion and Microbiology departments. The Shift Scientist PQ TPCH Core Laboratory reports to a nominated Supervising Scientist at TPCH.

What you'll do

- Participate in shift scientific rostering at the TPCH laboratory, performing simple to complex investigations, in Chemical Pathology, Haematology/Transfusion and Microbiology and perform preanalytical services in Central Specimen Reception where required.
- Be responsible for the verification and validation of results.
- Actively support the provision of a client–focused and cost-effective laboratory service.
- Develop knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.
- Commensurate with level of experience provide scientific education and supervision for less experienced practitioners.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform simple to complex investigations in Chemical Pathology, Haematology/Transfusion and Microbiology.
- Ability to efficiently prioritize specimens, perform tests accurately and efficiently without direct supervision and work independently towards the logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.




- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of a client-focused and cost-effective laboratory service.
- Availability to work various day and evening shifts as required for the efficient running of the TPCH Laboratory.

A roster review at PQ TPCH Core Laboratory is anticipated within the next three years, including a review of current workload and overnight staffing requirements. Should this review demonstrate a requirement for two Scientists on each overnight shift, this position may be converted to a Continuous Shift role.
