About The Role

AEMO’s Operational Forecasting team is responsible for short-term forecast services that feed into key operational and market processes in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). These forecasts are essential to support short-term network planning, reliability assessments and real-time operational decision-making.

Our Operational Forecasting team is recognised globally for its leadership in short-term forecasting practices. The team is looking for a Senior Analyst to expand its capability to pace with the complexity of forecasting an increasingly weather-dependent power system.

This role can be based in any capital city.

What You Will Be Doing

You will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of forecasting models for electricity demand, distributed photovoltaics (PV)



and variable renewable energy generation to support AEMO’s real-time control centres in both the NEM and the WEM.

You Will

- Support the operations stream lead by mentoring analysts, graduates and interns and help deliver on team priorities and technical quality.
- Lead the development and improvement of short-term forecasts for electricity demand, rooftop PV and variable renewable generation across the NEM and WEM.
- Work closely with AEMO’s control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the information they need.
- Contribute energy and weather information and insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews, and market reports to support secure and reliable power system operations.
- Coordinate across teams and markets to align tools, data, and forecasting processes between the NEM and WEM.

What You Will Bring To The Role

- Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline.
- Proven experience in a forecasting, operation, analytical, or market-related role.
- Solid ability to lead, support, and mentor others, and work collaboratively across multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in high-pressure environments with evolving technical challenges.




- Strong working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modelling techniques, including experience using tools such as SQL, Power BI, Excel, R, Python, Databricks, and forecasting platforms such as MetrixIDR or similar.
- Experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations and communicating technical information to a broad range of stakeholders, including control room operators, market participants and senior management.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical insights into operational and stakeholder-relevant advice.
