About the role Sound financial and actuarial stewardship helps keep schemes affordable, effective and sustainable for the people who need them. As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering statutory financial reporting across multiple icare entities, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Treasury requirements.
This role is ideally based in our Gosford office, where you'll work closely with key stakeholders and your Finance colleagues. We are also open to Sydney-based candidates, provided you are able to work from the Gosford office at least one day per week.
What you'll be working on
- Prepare and analyse statutory financial statements across multiple icare reporting entities, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and legislative requirements.
- Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to NSW Treasury, including monthly submissions, early close activities and year-end returns.
- Apply technical accounting expertise to support the implementation and ongoing compliance requirements of AASB 17 Insurance Contracts.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide advice on financial accounting matters and help ensure reporting outcomes are accurate and meaningful.
- Collaborate with the Audit Office, NSW Treasury and other key stakeholders to respond to complex financial and compliance queries.
- Develop accounting positions,
technical papers and recommendations to support sound decision-making and compliance outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen financial reporting processes, controls and ways of working across the organisation.
What you'll bring
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).
- Demonstrated experience preparing and delivering statutory financial statements in a complex financial services, insurance or similarly regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, with experience applying technical accounting requirements in practice.
- Experience working with or implementing AASB 17 Insurance Contracts and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical outcomes.
- Ability to analyse financial information, investigate complex issues and develop well-reasoned accounting positions.
- Confidence building relationships with auditors, treasury stakeholders and business partners while explaining technical concepts clearly.
