- Exercise independent statutory judgment on matters of national economic significance
- Preside over complex merits review at the intersection of law, economics and international trade
- Australia-wide appointment | Flexible and remote working | Term of up to three years

The appointment of Senior Member, Anti-Dumping Review Panel (ADRP) offers a rare opportunity to apply exceptional judgement and expertise to matters carrying significant consequences for Australian industry, international trade and the integrity of Australia’s Trade Remedies System. Operating at the apex of Australia’s anti-dumping and countervailing merits review framework, the Senior Member provides independent review of significant decisions made under Part XVB of the Customs Act 1901 . The role demands intellectual rigour, statutory precision and the authority to navigate complex questions of law, economics, accounting, industry evidence and public administration.

Your judgment will carry statutory weight.

The Senior Member holds a distinctive position within the ADRP, combining independent decision-making with stewardship of the review function. You will determine complex matters, allocate reviews to Panel Members, approve review application forms and oversee key aspects of the application process. You will work closely with the ADRP Secretariat and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources on the effective operation of the Panel and may assist in providing instructions in litigation involving the ADRP.

The matters before the Panel are rarely straightforward. They can involve substantial bodies of legal, economic, financial and industry evidence, competing commercial interests and decisions with material implications for Australian businesses and international trade.

The requirement is therefore greater than technical expertise alone.

For individuals seeking an appointment where expertise, independence and judgment have genuine national consequence, this is a compelling opportunity.

You will be capable of testing complex evidence, interpreting and applying legislation with precision, understanding the economic realities underpinning the issues before the Panel, and producing reasons that are clear, authoritative, and capable of withstanding scrutiny.

The appointment may particularly appeal to highly regarded individuals from the senior Bar, judiciary, administrative tribunals, regulatory practice, trade remedies, economics or related fields who are motivated by complex decision-making and the opportunity to make a substantive contribution to sound public administration.

Whatever your professional background, you will bring a sophisticated understanding of statutory decision-making, administrative law and complex evidence, together with the independence and standing required to operate effectively within a significant Commonwealth statutory framework.

Experience within Australia’s anti-dumping and countervailing setting will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of the industries represented across the ADRP’s caseload.
