Our client is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Manager to take ownership of a Perth-based manufacturing operation specialising in modular construction, timber and light-steel frames, trusses and flooring systems.
This is a senior, hands-on manufacturing leadership position with full responsibility for production, quality, safety, cost and people. You’ll work directly with the CEO to strengthen the current operation while helping shape the business’s longer-term transition towards a more efficient, flow-based manufacturing environment.
For the right person, there is genuine scope for the position to develop into a broader Group Operations Manager role.
What you’ll be doing:
- Taking overall responsibility for day-to-day factory performance
- Leading production supervisors, leading hands and the wider manufacturing workforce
- Delivering production schedules across multiple product streams
- Managing labour planning, capacity, productivity and shift requirements
- Driving Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Establishing and maintaining standard work, visual management and 5S
- Strengthening quality assurance systems, hold points and first-pass quality
- Monitoring rework, defects, labour hours, material waste and overtime
- Developing supervisors and building capability across the production team
- Managing performance and accountability across a diverse workforce
- Taking ownership of factory WHS, incident management and hazard reporting
- Reporting weekly production, quality, safety, labour and cost KPIs
- Identifying production constraints and implementing measurable improvement plans
- Helping design the process, layout, labour model and workflow for future manufacturing operations
What you’ll need:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience within a manufacturing setting
- At least 3 years running a factory or production operation
- Strong experience within timber framing, light-steel framing, modular or offsite construction
- Demonstrated experience leading a workforce of 20+ employees
- Proven experience implementing Lean manufacturing or process improvement
- Evidence of delivering measurable improvements in productivity, quality or cost
- Strong understanding of quality assurance systems and process-based quality control
- Experience developing supervisors and building high-performing production teams
- Strong understanding of production flow, capacity planning and manufacturing KPIs
- Ability to lead a multicultural workforce with a clear, fair and consistent management style
- Full and unrestricted Australian working rights
Highly regarded:
- Modular, volumetric or panelised construction experience
- Experience designing, commissioning or relocating a manufacturing facility
- Lean or Six Sigma qualifications
- ERP, MRP or production scheduling system experience
- Trade or building industry qualifications
- Experience helping a growing manufacturing business move towards more structured, systems-led operations
