About Bluetier

Bluetier is a Tasmanian project management and engineering consultancy. We work alongside the state's major asset owners to get infrastructure planned, built and handed over well. We've recently opened our Hobart office and we're growing the team.

The opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join a major water infrastructure delivery alliance on a deep sewer project in Hobart. The alliance brings together a Tasmanian water utility and some of Australia's leading contractors and designers.

This is a hands-on engineering role rather than a project management one. You'll be the technical lead on site: you'll own the construction methodology and the key procurement packages, and you'll keep subcontractors moving. The engagement runs for a minimum of 12 months, starting as soon as possible.

What you'll be doing

- Developing the construction methodology and leading the technical delivery of the works
- Running procurement for the major packages, including supply of DN1350 GRP pipe and manholes, micro-tunnelling, deep trenching, pipe laying, sheet piling, jet grouting and manhole construction. That covers scoping, tender documents, evaluation and award
- Managing those contracts once they're let: chairing progress meetings, updating the program, assessing progress claims and variations, and tracking deliverables




- Being the go-to person on site for technical questions from subcontractors, suppliers and designers
- Preparing ITPs, work packs and project-specific procedures, and managing work lots in Aconex
- Leading safety on your packages: reviewing SWMS, running contractor risk workshops and attending pre-starts
- Mentoring the project engineers on the team

What you'll bring

- A tertiary qualification in civil engineering
- Solid experience delivering water, wastewater or similar civil infrastructure on the contractor side
- A track record of managing subcontractors and suppliers on site
- Experience with pipework, valves and inline equipment, from design through fabrication to installation
- A working knowledge of AS 4087 and AS 4041, and of ISO 9001 quality systems
- Commercial sense, and the negotiation skills to handle claims and variations fairly
- Explicit communication and a practical, can-do approach
- A current C class driver's licence
- Utilities experience (desirable)
