About the role:

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies. PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.

Purpose of the role:

As a Senior Scientist, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective Haematology and Transfusion services across Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals and other Pathology Queensland clients. You will ensure laboratory practices comply with relevant Pathology Queensland policies, discipline requirements and applicable NATA, NPAAC and ISO 15189 standards. Working closely with the HP5 Supervising Scientist, you will support the day-to-day operation of the laboratories, as well as strategic planning and implementation to support the ongoing delivery and improvement of services.

Key responsibilities include:

Provide scientific leadership within the Fraser Coast Laboratories in Haematology and Transfusion services.

Develop, implement, maintain and improve supervised services in concert with the Fraser Coast supervising team, the Group Laboratory relevant discipline Chief Scientists, Fraser Coast Hospitals stakeholders and Pathology Queensland stakeholders.

Possess the ability to implement and validate new instrumentation.

Provide scientific advice and services to the Fraser Coast Hospitals and other clients relating to Haematology and Transfusion services.

Ensure supervised services meet or exceed service delivery KPI's.

Liaise with clients and relevant reference Pathology Queensland laboratories Haematology and Transfusion services.





Liaise with the Hervey Bay and Maryborough Senior Scientist for Chemistry, POCT, Micro and PCR services to coordinate performance and development of the Fraser Coast Health Practitioner team including training, provision of feedback and continuing education for supervised services.

Role fit:

You will bring advanced scientific knowledge and judgement in Haematology and Transfusion, with the ability to provide complex advice and support to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients. You will have strong technical expertise in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of relevant analytical equipment, as well as an understanding of the management and strategic direction of Haematology and Transfusion services. You will be confident supervising, supporting and developing Health Practitioner staff, with experience using laboratory and corporate systems including Auslab, Unity, QIS, Microsoft Office, S4HANA, myHR and RiskMan.
