SASTTI Joint Venture is an established engineering consultancy with over 20 years of experience in structural design, condition assessment, and water infrastructure. We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to contribute to the delivery of a variety of projects within the water sector. This position is well suited to individuals looking to further their experience in design leadership, client engagement, and infrastructure delivery.
The Opportunity
There is an opportunity to join SASTTI in a role focused on structural design and design management. The position involves leading structural design deliverables across water and wastewater infrastructure projects, from early scoping through to detailed design and construction support. The role includes guiding junior team members, reviewing technical outputs, and working closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver practical and code-compliant solutions.
While the role includes some condition assessment tasks, the primary focus will be on structural design and leading project delivery. A sound working knowledge of Australian Standards and industry codes is expected.
SASTTI supports staff in developing their expertise and taking on greater responsibility over time, including managing and delivering projects with increasing independence.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Brings at least 5 years’ experience in an engineering consultancy or related environment, with a focus on structural design.
- Has experience leading small engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Is competent in preparing and reviewing design documentation, calculations, and technical reports.
- Maintains a good understanding of relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS 3600, AS 5100) and WSAA codes.
- Has robust communication and interpersonal skills and is confident in engaging with clients and project teams.
- Holds (or is working towards) Chartered status with Engineers Australia.
- Has full working rights in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a lead in liaison with clients and stakeholders to develop design options and progress deliverables including running workshops in person/online, etc
- Lead the structural design components of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate and review work prepared by junior staff and external consultants.
- Undertake structural inspections and assessments where required to support design or rehabilitation planning.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and drawings.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of team capability and design processes.
