About the role The Service Designer will work across complex services and programs to understand user needs, identify opportunities for improvement and design better service experiences. The role will apply human-centred design practices throughout the service design lifecycle, from research and discovery through to prototyping, testing and implementation.

The Service Designer will work closely with users, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to gather insights and translate them into meaningful design outcomes. Key activities will include stakeholder and user interviews, journey mapping, service blueprinting, qualitative synthesis, co-design workshops, prototyping and user testing.

About you -

The ideal candidate will be a practical and hands-on Service Designer with experience applying human-centred design methodologies in government, public sector, consulting, not-for-profit or other complex service environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- Practical experience using human-centred design including user research, prototyping and facilitation.
- Strong qualitative research and analysis skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information and identify themes, patterns, insights and opportunities.
- Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams, collaborating effectively with designers, researchers, policy, technology, implementation and business stakeholders.
- The ability to contribute to strategic design direction across programs of work, while remaining comfortable with detailed, design delivery.
- Strong facilitation,



communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain design concepts and research findings to people with different levels of design experience.
- A curious, user-focused and outcome-oriented approach, with the ability to balance user needs, business objectives and delivery constraints.
- The ability to work with ambiguity, ask the right questions, structure complex problems and translate research and design insights into practical recommendations and outcomes.

- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

- Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
