Smarte Carte Australia is seeking an experienced Site Operations Manager to lead our Brisbane operations across Brisbane International Airport, Brisbane Domestic Airport and our Skygate DFO store.
This is a key leadership role overseeing a diverse portfolio of airport and retail operations, including luggage trolley management, baggage wrapping and storage, retail operations, massage chairs, electronic lockers and other Smarte Carte services.
We are looking for an experienced leader who can balance operational delivery with strong people leadership. In particular, we are seeking someone with demonstrated experience in change management, team development, performance management and building a positive workplace culture.
About the role
Reporting to the General Manager- New Zealand & Queensland, you will take ownership of the day-to-day performance of our Brisbane operations and lead a diverse team across multiple locations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching and developing a diverse operational team across Brisbane Airport and Skygate DFO
- Building a positive, engaged and accountable workplace culture
- Leading and embedding operational change, including new processes, systems and ways of working
- Recruiting, onboarding, training and developing employees
- Managing performance through regular feedback, coaching, performance reviews and appropriate action when required
- Developing and managing staff rosters in response to passenger traffic, operational requirements and budget
- Overseeing Smarte Carte's Brisbane operations, including luggage trolleys, baggage wrapping and storage, retail and other services
- Monitoring operational performance against KPIs and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Working closely with airport stakeholders, clients, contract managers and other key partners
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitoring sales, payroll, attendance, equipment,
financial and operational reporting
- Supporting strategies to improve efficiency, customer service and profitability
- Ensuring Smarte Carte policies, procedures and standards are consistently followed
- Promoting and maintaining a solid workplace health and safety culture
- Ensuring employees are appropriately trained and follow safe work practices
- Maintaining compliance with airport requirements and relevant legislation
- Ensuring Smarte Carte equipment, facilities and work areas are appropriately maintained
- Working closely with the General Manager- New Zealand & Queensland and wider leadership team to achieve business objectives
About you
You will be a confident and practical operational leader who enjoys working in a rapid-paced environment and understands that strong operational performance starts with strong people leadership.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager, Site Manager, Area Manager or similar leadership role
- Strong people management and leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing organisational or operational change
- A track record of building positive workplace culture and employee engagement
- Experience recruiting, training, coaching and developing employees
- Confidence managing performance and having challenging conversations when required
- Experience managing teams across multiple locations, shifts or operational environments
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with KPIs, budgets, rosters and operational reporting
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- The ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership and accountability for results
Experience in airport operations, aviation, retail, hospitality, logistics, transport or another high-volume operational environment will be highly regarded.
