An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Technical Adviser – Medicines Safety to join the Policy, Programs & Engagement Division. This is a senior specialist EL1-level role offering the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant digital health initiatives and the advancement of medicines safety across Australia.

About the Role

The Medicines Safety Program is focused on reducing medication errors, inappropriate medicine use and medicines misadventure through innovative digital health solutions.

As Technical Adviser, you will provide authoritative technical and clinical informatics advice across the design, implementation, optimisation and evaluation of digital health initiatives supporting medicines safety and the quality use of medicines.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will draw on your expertise across clinical informatics, digital medicines, healthcare delivery and health information systems to translate complex technical, regulatory, policy and interoperability requirements into practical solutions.
You will work across the Australian digital medicines landscape, including:

- Electronic prescribing and medication management
- Clinical decision support
- Medicines terminology and interoperability standards
- Health information exchange
- My Health Record
- Hospital and community medication workflows
- National digital health reforms
- Medicines management, prescribing and dispensing requirements

A key component of the role will be engaging with government, healthcare, industry and clinical stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, build consensus and support successful implementation and adoption of national digital health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert clinical informatics and digital health advice supporting national medicines safety initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and capability development to colleagues.
- Analyse and map complex clinical, business and technical processes and develop current and future-state workflows.
- Translate technical concepts, policy requirements,



data requirements and interoperability specifications into practical solutions.
- Provide strategic advice on legislation, regulations, policies and standards relevant to medicines management and digital healthcare.
- Research and verify technical information to support the implementation of medicines safety initiatives.
- Analyse implementation data and statistics to inform program uptake, change management and adoption strategies.
- Prepare high-quality briefs, technical papers, submissions, discussion papers, procurement documentation and policy advice.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across government, industry, clinical and healthcare sectors.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement activities, navigating competing priorities to achieve effective outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of digital health policies, standards, frameworks and guidance.
- Identify opportunities for system improvement using data, evidence and system-wide thinking.
- Support a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture focused on collaboration, innovation and continuous learning.

About You

To be successful, you will bring extensive experience in digital health, clinical informatics, health information systems, medicines management or a related field, together with the ability to operate effectively in complex and evolving environments.

You will ideally have:

- Tertiary qualifications in clinical informatics, health informatics, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, allied health, digital health, information technology or a related discipline.
- Relevant clinical registration will be highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of the Australian digital medicines and healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated experience analysing and optimising complex clinical, business and technical processes.
- The ability to translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into practical workflows and clear stakeholder requirements.
- Experience in digital health, healthcare delivery, government policy or large-scale reform environments.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement,



communication, influencing and relationship-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice and facilitate consensus across multidisciplinary stakeholder groups.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data and evidence to inform decision-making and program delivery.
- Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Australian Citizenship
