We’re praying for an experienced Christian ministry leader with theological depth and strong organisational leadership capability who can work closely with the Senior Pastor and senior leaders to turn MEC’s vision into action. The role is focussed on leading leaders and aligning our ministries around our mission and vision.

In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Pastor and have significant responsibility for:

- translating whole-church direction into executable strategy;
- integrating Ministries, Operations and Communications around whole-church priorities;
- leading and developing our senior leaders;
- developing and leading the rhythms and systems of our senior leadership teams
- driving our strategic initiatives;
- managing organisational complexity, trade-offs and change; and
- building leadership and organisational capacity for the future.

You’ll love this role if you are energised by working through others to see fruitful gospel ministry, especially by:

- turning broad direction into a workable plan;
- helping capable leaders become better leaders;
- asking good questions rather than always providing the answer;
- deciding what not to do;




- making meetings genuinely useful;
- designing structures and systems that help people flourish;
- keeping a number of interconnected things moving at once;
- and seeing a church become increasingly capable of fruitful ministry at greater scale

This probably isn’t the role for you if the ministry work that most energises you is primarily:

- preaching sermons (although there will be some chance for this);
- doing lots of direct pastoral care (although our senior leaders need to be discipled too);
- running individual ministries; (mobilise others to run ministries)
- leading operational portfolios like finances, buildings and policies; (your colleague, the Operations Manager, will look after that)
- setting the church vision (we’ll do that together, under the Senior Pastor).

Tell me about Maitland Evangelical Church (MEC)

There’s more to Maitland than flood plains and coal trains. More than 100,000 precious people live here, and around six people move into the area every day, making it one of the fastest-growing regional cities in NSW.

We’ve also grown quickly as a church. From meeting in a living room almost 25 years ago,



we have grown to 500 people gathering across three services each week. As MEC has grown, so has the complexity of leading our people, ministries and organisation well. This new role is a significant investment in the leadership capacity we need for the next season of gospel ministry.

Essential criteria

We’re looking for someone who:

- is relationally wise, theologically grounded, organisationally capable and deeply committed to the local church.
- holds a recognised tertiary theological qualification – a BTh, BD, MDiv or equivalent;
- has strong theological alignment with MEC;
- has substantial experience in vocational Christian ministry;
- has demonstrated experience leading and developing leaders;
- has strong judgement in managing complexity, competing priorities and organisational change;
- has demonstrated capacity to turn direction into strategy and implementation; and
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
