The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor to join our Canberra team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will be part of a great team and will be responsible for overseeing a range of interesting defendant files on behalf of insurers and government clients. In this mixed practice role, you will receive ongoing mentoring and development from a Principal, as well as support from the wider team.
The Role
We are seeking a Solicitor to join our Insurance Litigation team. This role is ideal for a newly admitted solicitor or someone in their first year of practice looking to develop their career across public liability, CTP, workers' compensation, and insurance litigation matters. You will work closely with senior lawyers while progressively taking carriage of smaller claims and managing matters from inception through to resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and assist with defendant insurance litigation matters.
- Take carriage of smaller claims with appropriate supervision.
- Draft advices, pleadings, submissions, briefs, and correspondence.
- Conduct legal research and analyse claim materials.
- Liaise directly with clients, insurers, barristers, and experts.
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and court proceedings.
- Negotiate settlements and assist with dispute resolution.
- Manage court processes, deadlines, and file progression.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Support senior lawyers across a diverse insurance litigation practice.
About You
- Newly admitted or within your first year of practice,
with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in defendant insurance litigation.
- Strong interest in defendant insurance litigation, including workers' compensation, CTP, and public liability matters.
- Exposure to ACT workers' compensation matters will be highly regarded.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
- Well-organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Eager to learn, take ownership of matters, and develop your legal career.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- We are open to candidates at the beginning of their legal career.
