Underground Maintenance Electrician

Sibanye-Stillwater Australia (SSWA), a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater Limited, is a prominent leader in mining, tailings management, and economic rehabilitation. Our operations include the Century Mine and Karumba Port in Queensland, featuring the largest tailings remining and processing operation in Australia. Additionally, we are focused on the Mt Lyell Copper Mine redevelopment project in Tasmania, ensuring sustainable underground operations.

We are currently seeking an Underground Maintenance Electrician to join our team at the Mt Lyell Mine.

This position will be offered as a residential role out of Mt Lyell on a 7/7 roster (12-hour shifts).

The Underground Maintenance Electrician will be responsible for maintaining electrical systems and equipment within the underground mining environment, including crushing, conveying, loading stations, pumping, and ventilation systems. This role ensures that all systems operate efficiently, minimising disruptions to production. The position will also require routine preventative maintenance within the Fixed Plant area.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Maintenance

- Perform electrical maintenance on surface and underground systems.

- Ensure all plant & equipment is maintained in a safe operating condition.

- Complete routine and preventative maintenance tasks to minimise plant disruptions.

- Identify, rectify, and report any electrical defects.

- Conduct Risk Assessments (JHAs) before commencing tasks.

- Complete Shift Log Sheets accurately and submit to the Shift Supervisor.

Safety and Compliance

- Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations and all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, ensuring safety and minimal environmental impact.





- Conduct workplace hazard identification and ensure workplace safety audits are completed.

- Report any potential safety concerns to the appropriate parties.

Training and Development

- Participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and manage operational risks.

- Ensure all training, including certifications, is up-to-date, including First Aid, Confined Space, and Working at Heights.

- Proficient in the use of computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge:

- Robust knowledge of electrical systems and plant maintenance.

- Familiarity with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, as well as industry standards.

Experience:

- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar electrical maintenance role, ideally within a mining or underground environment.

- Experience working with electrical equipment in fixed plant, crushing, or ventilation systems is highly desirable.

Education, Qualifications, Tickets, Licences:

- Trade qualification in Electrical

- Current Driver’s Licence (manual).

- Relevant industry certifications including Confined Space, Working at Heights, First Aid, Elevated Work Platform, HV switching Certificate.

- Experience with instrumentation and high-voltage switching operations.
