We’re looking for a passionate Garden Educator to help adults develop practical skills in growing their own food and maintaining sustainable urban gardens.
This is a hands-on role combining horticulture, education and people skills.
You’ll spend your time outdoors working with participants, demonstrating gardening techniques and sharing your knowledge of edible plants, soil health and sustainable growing practices.
About the Role
You’ll help participants learn about:
Growing vegetables, herbs, fruit and other edible plants
Soil preparation, planting and garden maintenance
Sustainable and environmentally responsible gardening
Seed raising and plant propagation
Composting, mulching and water-wise gardening
Identifying and managing common pests and plant issues
Seasonal planting and harvesting
The role also involves manual handling, including moving soil, compost, mulch, plants, pots, gardening equipment and other materials.
You’ll need to be comfortable working on your feet, using basic gardening tools and undertaking moderate physical activity outdoors.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
Practical experience in horticulture, gardening or growing edible plants
A sound understanding of sustainable gardening practices and soil health
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confidence engaging with and teaching adults from different backgrounds
A friendly, patient and approachable personality
The ability to demonstrate practical skills and encourage others to have a go
A genuine passion for plants and sustainable gardening
