Period of Appointment

Fixed term for 2 years.
Location

Hobart, Launceston, Burnie or Devonport
Hours per fortnight

Duties

Carriage and conduct of complex and critical criminal matters before the Supreme and Magistrates Courts and Tribunals.
Provide high level legal advice and program related support to staff, clients and stakeholders, including the critical assessment and management of indictable cases which will enable timely court proceedings, appropriate finalisation of cases and efficient use of TLA resources.
Provide professional advice, guidance and training to legal practitioners to support the achievement of effective program outcomes.
In consultation with the Associate Director – Criminal Law and Criminal Practice Managers, develop, implement and review service delivery improvement initiatives, programs and strategic priorities
Undertake aspects of staff management including recruitment, leave,



performance and training to strengthen Tasmania Legal Aid's service delivery capabilities in accordance with delegations.
Establish and maintain relationships with Tasmania Legal Aid's community, industry, state and national stakeholders to enhance Tasmania Legal Aid's work and promote holistic assistance for clients.

Essential Requirements

Admitted as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the relevant Federal Courts.
Current Tasmanian Registration Working with Vulnerable People (Registration Status-Employment)

Desirable Requirements

A minimum of five years' experience as a practitioner in the Criminal Law jurisdiction.
Current Motor Vehicle Driver's Licence.
