Intermediate Accountant — Public Practice
Location: Sydney CBD, NSW
Firm: Top 50 Chartered Accounting Firm

Our client is a well-established Top 50 public practice accounting firm based in Sydney's CBD, providing tax, business services, and advisory to a diverse client base spanning SMEs, private groups, and high-net-worth individuals.

About the Role
We're seeking an Intermediate Accountant with 2+ years' public practice experience to join a growing business services and tax team.
This role suits someone with a solid foundation gained specifically within an accounting firm (not commerce/industry) who is ready to take on a larger client portfolio and more complex compliance and advisory work.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals
Prepare and lodge BAS/IAS and manage other statutory compliance obligations
Assist with tax planning and provide general advisory support to clients
Manage a portfolio of clients directly, including day-to-day queries and deadlines
Support managers and partners on more technical engagements (restructures, Division 7A, CGT,
etc.)
Review work prepared by graduate/junior accountants
Ensure ATO lodgement deadlines and compliance obligations are consistently met
Contribute to special projects such as budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and client advisory work
About You
Essential: Minimum 2 years' experience in an Australian public practice (accounting firm) environment — commerce/industry experience alone will not meet the requirements of this role
CA/CPA qualified or actively progressing through the program
Strong working knowledge of Australian tax law, including income tax, GST, and FBT
Proficient in practice software such as Xero, MYOB, and/or CCH/HandiSoft
Excellent client-facing communication skills, written and verbal
Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage a client portfolio
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating within a team structure
