Newly created position where safety meets leadership and strategic thinking (internally known as Principal WHS & Emergency Management)
Lead when it matters most, from everyday prevention to declared emergencies
Permanent full-time role with flexible working arrangements, including work from home options
Starting annual wage of $97,****** + 15% Employer Superannuation
The Role:
This is a strategic, hands‐on position responsible for leading and embedding WHS and emergency management across our organisation, where no two weeks will look the same.
You'll be responsible for:
Leading Council's WHS Management System, driving improvements, updating procedures, and embedding a safety culture of shared ownership and everyday awareness
Testing, exercising and reviewing Council's Municipal Emergency Management Plan and supporting processes
Keeping Council's Business Continuity Plan up to date so essential services never miss a beat
Getting out and about, leading risk treatment programs, investigating incidents and running workplace audits
Coaching and upskilling leaders, embedding safe, prepared, and resilient practices across the board
Turning data into insight, tracking trends and brief the executive team on what it means for Council
Stepping into the Municipal Coordinator role and leading Council's response when an emergency is declared
Representing Council on regional and state emergency management committees and forums
What You will Bring:
To thrive in this role, you will have the following:
A relevant qualification in WHS, emergency management or a related field or relevant practical experience
Sound working knowledge of WHS and emergency management legislation, with the ability to apply it practically
High‐level communication, consultation and negotiation skills, and the ability to connect with stakeholders at every level
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
Confidence with digital systems (Microsoft 365, WHS platforms, ArcGIS) and using data to inform recommendations
Experience coordinating emergency response, recovery and business continuity planning
A resilient, self‐starting approach, comfortable working autonomously and staying steady under pressure
A track record of driving process improvements and leading change, backed by sound emotional intelligence and judgement
