Target Business Services Location: Unit ***** Inglis Street, Ballan VIC **** Salary: $80,000 – $85,000 plus superannuation Position: Full time, Permanent Shine Axis Group Pty Ltd trading as The Tin Plate Café and Restaurant operates a full-service café and restaurant in Ballan, Victoria, providing dine-in table service, takeaway, local delivery and private catering.
The business operates on a made-to-order production model, with meals prepared and plated on site across breakfast, lunch and dinner services.
The Tin Plate Café and Restaurant offer a broad menu incorporating Nepalese and Australian cuisine, breakfast dishes, café-style meals, starters and small plates, Himalayan momo, grilled dishes, pasta, risotto, vegetarian meals, desserts and other daily specials.
The kitchen uses a range of cooking methods, including grilling, pan-frying, deep-frying, braising, baking and sauce preparation, and regularly accommodates dietary requirements, allergy requests and menu variations for private functions and group bookings.
An opportunity is available for two reliable and skilled Cooks to join the kitchen team.
The successful candidates will assist with food preparation and service, prepare a broad range of made-to-order dishes, maintain food safety and hygiene standards, and contribute to the smooth operation of the commercial kitchen during busy trading periods.
Qualifications and Experience To be successful in this role, you will have: -Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent qualification, together with minimum one-year full-time experience as a Cook.
-Practical knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, portion control and commercial kitchen procedures.
Key Responsibilities Your duties will include: -Prepare and cook Nepalese and Australian dishes, including Himalayan momo, grilled items, pasta, risotto, vegetarian meals, starters, mains and desserts.
-Complete daily mise en place, including preparation of meats,



seafood, vegetables, sauces, stocks, pasta components and other ingredients required for service.
-Cook menu items to order using appropriate techniques including grilling, pan-frying, deep-frying, braising, baking and oven finishing.
-Ensure food is cooked to the required standard, with appropriate portion sizes, flavour, texture and presentation.
-Plate and present meals consistently in accordance with menu specifications and customer requirements.
-Prepare modified meals for customers with dietary requirements, allergies or other specific food requests while taking appropriate measures to prevent cross-contamination.
-Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, including workstations, cooking equipment, utensils, refrigerators and food storage areas.
-Follow food safety, hygiene, HACCP and workplace health and safety procedures throughout food preparation and service.
-Check the quality, freshness and suitability of ingredients before use and ensure food is stored correctly.
-Assist with receiving, checking, labelling, rotating and storing food deliveries.
-Apply appropriate stock rotation and preparation practices to minimise food waste.
-Assist with food preparation and production for private functions, group bookings and catering requirements when required.
Skills The successful candidates will demonstrate: -Sound cooking skills and the ability to work across a varied menu.
-Understanding of food safety, hygiene, HACCP principles and workplace health and safety requirements.
-Previous experience working in a busy café, restaurant or other commercial food service environment.
-Ability to work effectively as part of a kitchen team in a made-to-order service environment.
-Reliability, punctuality and a cooperative approach to working within a skilled kitchen team.
