The Role: Reporting to the HSEC Manager, the Health, Safety and Training Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for driving health and safety leadership, risk management, and workforce training capability across the mining operation.
The role ensures compliance with Victorian WHS legislation while embedding a robust safety culture, building team competency, and supporting operational excellence across the site.
Title: Health Safety Superintendent (Mining) Location: Regional VIC Salary: $170k - $190k + Super + Bonus + Benefits Roster: 5/2 - Mon-Fri Company : Australian Based Mining Owner Reports to: HSEC Manager Key Responsibilities: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the site's Health and Safety Management System, Drive a strong safety culture through visible leadership and workforce engagement.
Oversee risk management processes, including hazard identification, critical risk controls, workplace inspections, and safety assurance activities.
Lead investigations into significant incidents, injuries, and high-potential events, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions effectively implemented.
Develop and manage the site's training and competency framework.
Oversee occupational health and wellbeing program and health monitoring processes.
Coordinate internal and external audits, and ensure timely compliance reporting to regulators, auditors, and internal leadership teams.
Maintain and test emergency response plans, and support emergency preparedness across the site.
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Health, Safety, and Training professionals.
About You: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE***** or equivalent).
Minimum 5-10 years' experience in health, safety, and training leadership within mining, resources, or heavy industry.
Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and mining regulations.
Demonstrated experience managing safety management systems and leading incident investigations (ICAM, TapRooT, or equivalent).
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
Proven capability to lead, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary team.
