Rugby - Head of Performance and 1st XV Rugby Coach
The Scots College is seeking a dynamic and visionary Rugby - Head of Performance to lead the technical direction, coaching excellence, and performance development of the Rugby program across all campuses.
The primary purpose of this elite leadership role is to drive the performance and competitive standard of Rugby across the College. The position will lead the development and implementation of a College-wide Rugby Performance Curriculum, mentor and develop coaching staff, and establish professional learning and player development strategies that ensure the program remains at the forefront of schoolboy sport within the AAGPS and IPSHA competitions.
A key focus of the role is the ability to personally coach and lead the College 1st XV, while providing strategic direction, technical leadership, and coaching support across all age groups and levels of the program.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performance & Curriculum
Develop and implement a comprehensive Rugby Performance Curriculum that supports the developmental needs of students from junior levels through to the senior teams. As a focal point of this role, you will personally lead and coach the College 1st XV Rugby Team.
Coaching Leadership
Lead the recruitment, induction, and development of Rugby coaches across the College. You will be responsible for communicating the Rugby Performance Curriculum and ensuring coaches are equipped to deliver a consistent technical and tactical framework.
Provide regular, constructive feedback through session observations, coach meetings, workshops, and clinics to drive continuous improvement and strengthen coaching capability across the program.
Be visible and actively engaged across training sessions and competitions, providing technical guidance and leadership to coaches at all age groups and grades.
Professional Development
Design and manage a Professional Development Strategy for Rugby staff, including identifying and promoting relevant learning opportunities, organising guest speakers, workshops, high-performance clinics, and maintaining a repository of contemporary Rugby coaching resources.
Build a culture of continuous learning and improvement that ensures the College's coaching practices remain contemporary, evidence-based, and aligned with high-performance principles.
In collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning Team, oversee player development tracking, load management, and monitoring systems to optimise performance and long‐term physical health for players across all age groups.
Culture and Alignment
In conjunction with the Deputy Principal - Sport and Co-Curricular and the Rugby - Head of Operations, ensure the Rugby program operates in complete alignment with the College's vision, mission, and values.
Compliance and Review
Oversee a rigorous performance review framework for all coaches, ensuring detailed record-keeping and alignment with College standards and required certifications (Working with Children Check, First Aid, etc.).
ABOUT YOU
You are a highly experienced Rugby coach or high-performance leader with a passion for developing people, building successful programs, and driving technical excellence. You possess:
A proven track record of coaching Rugby at an elite or high-performance level, with the capability to coach and lead a 1st XV Rugby Team to success.
Deep expertise in contemporary Rugby technical and tactical frameworks, player development, and high-performance pathways.
The ability to develop and implement a clear, progressive Rugby Performance Curriculum across multiple age groups and campuses.
A demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse coaching group to deliver a unified performance vision.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage professional development programs, budgets, coaching reviews, and compliance processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students, coaches, staff, and parents.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The nature of this position requires the appointee to be available outside of normal school hours, including afternoons, evenings, weekends,
and during Rugby competitions and representative fixtures.
The appointee is expected to participate fully in the life of the College, attend meetings, events, training sessions, competitions, and presentations as required, and undertake additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
