Service Engineer - Building Automation & Controls
Melbourne, VIC | Full-time
Our client is a well-established building management and automation systems integrator, working across commercial, healthcare, institutional and industrial sites throughout Victoria. Due to growth, they are looking to add a Service Engineer to their service team.
In this role you will diagnose faults, deliver practical solutions, and help keep critical building systems running safely, reliably and efficiently. You'll work directly with clients and alongside experienced engineers and project teams. Applicants from a broad range of technical backgrounds are welcome, with training and support provided to the right person.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and reactive maintenance across client sites
- Troubleshoot and resolve faults on building management systems, controllers, field devices, sensors, HVAC plant and associated equipment
- Assist with commissioning, testing and system modifications
- Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate records
- Build strong client relationships through professional service and technical support
- Identify opportunities for system improvements and additional service work
- Support project delivery teams with site-based commissioning and technical activities
- Provide occasional after-hours support and respond to callouts when required
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company and client requirements
About You
You're a practical, solutions-focused person who enjoys fault finding and working directly with customers. If you're technically curious and willing to learn, this role could suit you. You'll bring:
- An interest in building automation, controls, HVAC, electrical, electronics, IT and networking, instrumentation or a related technical field
- Some hands-on technical or field experience is helpful, but not essential
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals and specifications
- Valuable communication and customer service skills
- A proactive approach to managing and prioritising your work
- A commitment to safety and quality outcomes
- A current Australian driver's licence
- Willingness to provide occasional after-hours support when required
Systems and Technologies
Exposure to any of the following is well regarded but not essential:
- Building automation platforms: Tridium Niagara (N4), Distech Controls, Siemens (Desigo, Talon), Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric (EcoStruxure), Delta Controls, Automated Logic (ALC), Trend, iSMA, EASYio
- Field and integration hardware: Phoenix Contact, Belimo, ABB, and various sensors, actuators, VSDs and metering devices
- Communications and protocols: BACnet (IP and MS/TP), Modbus, LonWorks, KNX, Niagara Fox, IP networking fundamentals
- Plant and equipment: AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, VAV systems
